Friendship

In life, you will meet many people.  Some will come into your hearts and stay there for a lifetime, others will travel through never to be heard from again.  I can assure you my loves, that everyone you meet will effect you in some way, big or small.

My very very favorite song is For Good, from Wicked.  It talks about friendship, and forgiveness. Most importantly how we all leave footprints on each others hearts - no matter how our story ends.

These beautiful ladies are my dearest friends.  In life, no matter where I go - I know that I will always have the love and support of all of them.

At the top is Ms. Desiree.  She and I have been friends since high school.  You guys love to play with her beautiful children Peyton, Finn, and Piper.  Tommy, one day I am going to get her to teach you the Flashdance dance.  I know that you will be excellent at it.

Next comes Aunt Butter.  She is your Godmother bug.  She is a wise and kind soul, and I know that she will always give you the best advice.  Her smile can light up a room.  I am so glad that you will always have the benefit of her guidance.

Beside butter is Denise.  She is so funny, and so creative.  I used to love to just be near her to listen to her jokes, and witty sarcasm.

And then the beautiful Turley.  Turley is just majestic, her laughter is infectious.  I miss her hugs and witty humor.

I cannot wait to meet the friends that you will collect throughout life.

Your Great Grandmother

Oh the stories, your great grandma had the greatest stories.  I wish I had listened more, gleaned more wisdom from her.  Next week she will have been gone for 18 years.  That is a lifetime.

It makes my heart hurt for my momma, your grandmother.  I know that she misses her terribly, and I cannot imagine how hard it was to raise 2 children without the benefit of having her mother to call when she needed advice.

Grandma was always full of life, my best memories are of her at the river.  She would usually be in the kitchen, cooking or cleaning something - and dancing.  The music was always on.  Usually an oldies station- sometimes country, she would be singing along, doing a little soft shooing against the green linoleum floor.

She always kept a bag of doggie treats above the refrigerator, she loved feeding the strays, and the neighborhood dogs too, of course.

She tried to put my hair in "pin curls," I didn't let her.  I was such a brat.  I wish I had, then I might know how to do it now.

She and your great grandfather lived through the depression.  It made them apprecitate things so much more than we do.  Your great grandpa built the cottage on Muddy Gut Road with his two hands, how amazing is that?!  He also picked out their house on Chamberlayne Road without her even seeing it.  I remember her telling me that she didn't like it.
I remember once at the river house I was trying to help by doing the dishes.  She had made eggs and sausage on a cast iron skillet & it was a mess.  I scrubbed it & scrubbed it until it was clean.  I was in so much trouble!!! I had no idea that that you were not supposed to wash cast iron.  She also used to wash out plastic bags and Reynolds Wrap to re-use them, along with any plastic cups or cutlery.  I still cringe a little before I throw away Reynolds Wrap or one of those big gallon sized bags.

Audrey Meade Forney

She really did have some wonderful stories.  The ones that I remember her telling the most were the stories that she told at the end of the pier at the river.  She would take my hand in the darkness and rub my thumb nail as she told them.  We made lots of wishes and discussed hopes and dreams for the future on the end of that pier.  That is where your great grandpa told me that the moon shines so brightly because it is fluorescent.
The one that I remember hearing the most often was the story of her eating an apple in her home ec class.  Grandma was hungry, so hungry, and her class was making apple pie.  They had to peel the apples, and they were throwing away the peels.  Grandma took one of the discarded peels and put it in her mouth.  She began to chew it and then choked.  Once all of the commotion was over she got in trouble for it, can you imagine getting in trouble for that?  I want you to be sure that you are always grateful for what we have, even if you don't think it is enough.

Forney Family

This is one of my favorite pictures.  It was taken at the River (Rivah to you), your cousin Lisa came in from Oregon and we surprised grandma and grandpa.  These are all of their grandchildren John, Lisa, me - your adorable mommy, Steve, Grandma, Evan, Joseph, your Uncle Billy, and Grandpa.

Grandma was the glue that held the family together.  She always had crab balls in the freezer, and made the most amazing lemonade cake.  You & I got your middle names from her bug - Meade.  I love having that part of her with me all the time, and that I was able to pass that on to you as well.  It seems kind of like keeping the flame of her memory lit forever.  I hope that one day you will consider passing on the name to your children.

Changes

I am so excited, things are changing & fast.

We are finally putting a fence in, this is going to make it so much easier to play and have fun outside.

Papa & Daddy are building your playground, it is going to be amazing.

And we finally have enough saved up to get a minivan.

Life is good, I am so happy.  You are both so sweet & full of life.  I cannot wait for summer.

First Kiss

March 11, 2012

Sweet Bug,

You are growing up so fast.  You have such a little personality, you amaze me with how smart (and sassy) you are.  One of your favorite new things to do is pack a purse, or a stroller & pretend like you are leaving.  You usually pack a train or a car, a spoon & sometimes a cup.

On Sunday we were playing dress up & you had your bag all packed, I was sitting in the floor in the kitchen sorting through things and you waved bye, I said bye back, and you started to blow me a kiss & then changed your mind and came running at me.  You gave me the sweetest, open mouth kiss right on my mouth.

It was amazing.  I will never, ever forget my first kiss from you.

Asthma

Asthma, truly I can't even spell it. It has the combination of letters that make my dyslexia go crazy. In the past two days I have looked up asthma symptoms & treatment so many times that I should be able to spell it perfectly now.  I still can't

It is the explanation of why you cough so hard.  I hope that you will outgrow it & that you will never ever remember coughing so hard that you broke the blood vessels in your sweet face and couldn't catch your breath.  I will never forget.  For right now you are on a ton of medicine and we go see an allergist next week to see what you are allergic too.  We are going to do our best to try and remove your triggers.  I am looking forward to you being all better.

I love you sweet prince, all the way to the moon & back.

Am I Qualified to Answer That?

I am a fairly intelligent woman, teachers usually are.  (insert laugh here)   But, I never thought I would be answering the questions that I have in the past two weeks.

"Mommy, what is a soul?"

This is when we were in the car.  In my head I am trying to calculate the exact right thing to say to this HUGE question.

A soul is what Jesus put inside of you that makes you special and beautiful.

I think that one was pretty good.

"Mommy, when we go to Heaven can we come back?"

This was when we were getting ready for bed.

Heaven is like our playroom, beautiful and warm with lots of windows so you can see everyone you love.  When you come back you will be an angel.

You did not like the answer to this one, you wanted to know that you would be able to come back and play with your toys.

"Mommy, why do people do bad things?"

Sometimes even big people have days when they aren't very good listeners and they do things that they should not.

"Mommy, did you know that my whole class is going to heaven."

Yes sweet baby.  Then you told me everyone but Issac because he is absent too much.  Then we had a talk about everyone that loves Jesus gets to go to Heaven.

These are all from the past two weeks.  Your little brain must be going in overdrive.  I am not sure that I am qualified to answer all the questions that you will have in your life. But I hope that I do ok.

Love you!

Mommy

Happy Birthday Uncle Jack

Yesterday was your Uncle Jack's Birthday.  Really he is your Great Uncle, but he is such an amazing presence in your life that it makes much more sense for you guys to just call him Uncle Jack.   He was there for both of your births, to help us move, to put up ceiling fans, and most importantly he is always there to be a constant presence in your life.

He loves both of you so much, I love seeing your eyes light up when he calls or comes by.  Last night he brought Holden over.  You both love him too, I love to see you relate to family so well.  At Thanksgiving Holden helped teach you to "play" the guitar.  It wasn't a real guitar, it was some silly thing that your Grandpa has that was made from a beer can.  But the good news  is that when you are old enough I know that Holden can teach you to play the real guitar.

Elayna, you are quite smitten with Holden too, he is one of the few males in your life that you will let pick you up.  Similarly, Uncle Jack was the first man (other than Daddy) that you cried for when he left.  We were at International Date Night with Nana & co. at Cracker Barrel.  Uncle Jack got up and left the table and your sweet little lip poked right out.

I am so glad that you will have such a positive role model to grow up knowing, and loving.

Thank you Uncle Jack for helping me to Defy Gravity & pass that along to my babies.

Happy Birthday.
